“I believe we are all growing out of the darkness, seeking our inner light, and bringing our beauty towards the sun.”
Q+A with Judy
Why did you start practicing yoga?
I started practicing yoga because I am interested in learning about different philosophies and I was also hoping to improve my strength and balance. Plus, people always told me I would love it, so I had to finally give it a try. That was 25 years ago.
Why do you keep practicing yoga?
I practice yoga because it is essential to my mental health and I love to challenge myself in positive ways.
How has yoga impacted your life off the mat?
Yoga has vastly improved my life. Not only am I physically stronger, I am more emotionally balanced, centered, and yoga creates a space of self-exploration. Yoga invites you to learn about other cultures, other ways of being in the world, other ways of healing yourself and others. It really is a beautiful thing.
Outside of practicing yoga, what other activities do you enjoy?
I love being in nature, I love poetry, my dogs, learning, art, and spending time with friends and family.
What do you hope your students take away from your classes?
I hope my students feel more grounded and connected to themselves and the world around them. I hope they leave with a little bit more peace in heart and mind.
What do you find most rewarding about being a yoga teacher?
The most rewarding thing for me is creating a safe space for people. There is little better than hearing how you have improved someone's day, helped them get closer to a pose, or learn something new - even if it's only in an hour together.
What’s something on your bucket list?
I want to get my PhD.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
That I am the only Yankee in my family.
Any mantra or quote you live by?
Be the little weirdo that you are.
